For the last 10 years this beautiful Gothic Revival building has been empty waiting for the right purview to make the development a success yet one that will preserve the majesty of the building. Over the past few years numerous development groups have looked at many angles to approach this project; from knocking the church down (which is thankfully no longer permitted due to its Heritage designation); to maintaining only the front facade; to building a large 4 story condominium addition. This fall, Decargani Development Corporation, embarked on a stunning new vision for the church – we chose to keep the building as it is. In our opinion it would be sinful to destroy the wonderful gothic arched windows, or knock down the original bell tower at the back of the building. It was these very features that made The St. Clements special to begin with. Our plan is to retain as much of the original structure and integrity of the building and make minimal adjustments to increase natural light into the space in order to preserve and enhance St. Leslieville’s beauty and charm. We also plan on maintaining the overall harmony of the neighborhood by building tastefully appointed homes adjacent to St. Leslieville that will compliment the structure and not overshadow it. The Property will feature 14 dwellings ranging in size from a 804 sqft one bedroom flat to a 1980 sqft two bedroom family home as well as three bedroom town home style units, each thoughtfully designed and integrated into the historic building. St. Leslieville will offer a custom built wine room with individual private wine lockers and a chef’s kitchen area within the building’s amenity space. This room will be available for wine tastings and parties and will become the envy of Leslieville residents and a favourite lounging place for owners. Parking, storage lockers, and bike lockers will also be available. The church will be restored to modern standards of the Ontario Building Code yet will also maintain its Heritage Building designation. High efficiency heating, cooling and windows as well as modern insulation will be utilized to provide multiple energy saving features. Natural light will be harnessed so the building will not contribute wastefully to the environment or your bottom line. We will make every effort to not contribute to landfill by salvaging existing features of the building, making the reuse of this property overall, a very green build.
